Serve where help is needed at community events, outreach opportunities, and special projects-one clear commitment at a time.

One serving opportunity can make a difference

Community Volunteers are for people who want to help with outreach, special events, and other opportunities as they arise. These are event-based commitments rather than a standing weekly service schedule. You can review each opportunity and choose the dates and roles that fit your availability.

Sign up when you can be present for the full commitment. Clear communication helps the event leader plan well and serve the community with care.

1. Review the opportunity before signing up

Read the event details and check the date, time, location, role, expected arrival and end times, and any requirements. If something is unclear, ask the event leader before committing. Choose an opportunity because you are available and willing to complete the assignment-not because you assume someone else can cover if plans change.

2. Schedule a Shadow Serve when the role needs it

For a role that requires hands-on learning, schedule a date to serve alongside the event or outreach leader. The leader will explain what to observe, where to report, what to bring, and what you may do during the shadow experience. Some event roles may need only a short briefing; the event leader will tell you what applies.

Use the Shadow Serve to learn the event flow, team communication, safety expectations, and how guests or community members are served. Follow the leader's direction and ask questions at an appropriate time.

3. Confirm your commitment and prepare

Galatians 6:10 (KJV)
"As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men."

Once you sign up or confirm with the leader, save the details and plan to arrive at the agreed time. Review any instructions, clothing guidance, materials, or training shared with you. If you have a question about physical requirements, transportation, or supplies, ask before the event day.

4. Communicate early if plans change

If illness, an emergency, or another conflict means you cannot come, notify the event leader as soon as possible using the contact method provided. Do not wait until the event begins, and do not assume another volunteer knows you are unavailable. Early notice gives the leader a chance to adjust assignments or find coverage.

5. Serve the community with dignity

Follow the event leader's instructions, treat every person with respect, and protect private information. Do not make promises about services, resources, eligibility, or follow-up unless the leader has authorized you to do so. If someone needs help beyond your assignment, connect them with the event leader or the appropriate team.

Be mindful of safety. Stay within your role, use the designated communication process, and report hazards or concerns promptly. Do not photograph, record, or share someone's story or image unless the event's process and that person's permission allow it.

6. Finish the assignment and check out

Stay through the time you committed to and complete your assigned tasks. Follow the leader's close-out instructions, return supplies, and share any unfinished work or concern. Check out with the leader before leaving so the team knows your assignment is complete.

Community Volunteer readiness check

  • I understand: the event date, time, location, role, and requirements.
  • I am available: for the full time I accepted.
  • I will learn: by scheduling a Shadow Serve or briefing when the leader requires it.
  • I will communicate: promptly if my plans change.
  • I will serve with care: following the event plan and respecting the community.

Thank you for offering your time. Every event is an opportunity to serve people and put the mission of Conquerors Church into action.

Pause and reflect

Take a moment to consider these questions. You can write your answers in your notes or discuss them with the event leader.

  1. What kinds of community events or outreach opportunities interest you?
  2. What details do you need before you can confidently commit to an event?
  3. How will you let the event leader know if your availability changes?

Quick knowledge check

Choose one answer for each question, then select Check my answers.

1. What should you review before signing up for an event?

2. If your plans change and you can no longer attend, what should you do?

3. What is the purpose of a Shadow Serve for an event role?

This lesson's completion tracking and leader notification will be connected when we build the Serve @ CC training tracker.
