A Team Lead helps people serve well
As a Team Lead, you help volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, supported, and connected to the mission of Conquerors Church: Magnify God, Maximize Purpose, and Mobilize People. You care for the people serving and coordinate the practical details that help your ministry function well. Your example sets the tone.
"Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock."
1. Care for the people on your team
Learn names, notice strengths, and check in with volunteers. Thank them specifically for the difference they make. Pray with your team and help them remember why their service matters. If someone seems discouraged or overwhelmed, listen privately and ask what support would help. Respect their availability and connect concerns beyond your role with the DreamTeam Director or appropriate ministry leader.
2. Prepare and coordinate the serving day
Review assignments and confirmations before service or an event. Make sure volunteers know their arrival time, location, responsibilities, and who to contact. Check supplies and room readiness. Address gaps early with the designated coordinator; check for commitments on other teams before requesting coverage. A declined assignment needs a response and a coverage plan, without guilt or pressure.
When your team gathers, hold a brief huddle: welcome them, pray, clarify assignments, and share relevant changes. Follow the ministry plan, keep communication calm, and bring safety concerns to the designated person promptly.
3. Guide new volunteers through Shadow Serve
Confirm the shadow date, arrival time, meeting place, what to wear or bring, and the expected length of the experience. Check required training and role-specific approvals with the appropriate leader. Welcome the volunteer by name, introduce the team, and explain what they will observe.
Demonstrate the role and explain why each step matters. Show where supplies are kept, how the team communicates, and who handles unexpected concerns. Let the volunteer observe first, then try an appropriate task with support when permitted. Protect private information throughout.
4. Coach and confirm readiness
Give clear directions in manageable steps. Recognize what went well and offer one or two practical adjustments. Correct respectfully and privately when needed. Ask what the volunteer learned and what questions remain. Confirm whether more shadowing, training, or approval is needed before independent serving. If this role is not a good fit, help them explore another area with dignity.
5. Communicate and follow through
Follow up after a Shadow Serve and confirm the next step. Keep the DreamTeam Director or appropriate ministry leader informed about readiness, staffing needs, supplies, and concerns. Share accurate updates through the church's designated process. Handle disagreements calmly and directly; seek help when needed. A Team Lead works within ministry guidelines and does not independently change church policy or promise approval.
6. Keep growing through Team Lead sessions
There will be periodic Team Lead sessions and trainings to build and encourage our Team Leads. These gatherings provide time for practical training, prayer, encouragement, shared learning, and ministry updates. Come ready to discuss challenges respectfully, ask questions, and learn from other Team Leads.
Make these sessions a priority. When dates are announced, confirm your attendance and communicate early if you cannot attend. Ask how to receive missed material, then apply what you learn with your team. Growth is an ongoing part of serving as a Team Lead.
