Learn how to schedule a shadow serve, follow a team leader to understand the service flow, and get ready to serve with the Dream Team.

Our process: Sit in Class, Schedule, Shadow, Serve

The Serve @ CC path has four clear steps. The modules are your classroom training. After class, you schedule a date to serve alongside a team leader. You shadow that leader to learn how the team works during a service. Then, after reviewing the experience and completing any role-specific steps, you begin serving.

1. Sit in Class

Complete the general Serve @ CC modules. They introduce the heart of serving, excellence, honor, teamwork, safety, and the Dream Team serving rhythm. This shared foundation prepares you for the hands-on learning that comes next.

2. Schedule your Shadow Serve

Connect with the team leader and choose a specific date and service when you can serve alongside them. The leader will confirm the date, arrival time, meeting place, and any instructions about what to wear or bring. Make sure the date works for you before you confirm.

A Shadow Serve is a scheduled learning opportunity. It gives you a real view of the team's flow and a chance to see how the leader prepares, communicates, and serves. If you need to change the date, contact the leader as soon as possible so you can arrange another time.

3. Shadow the team leader

On the scheduled date, arrive at the agreed time and check in with the leader. Stay alongside them, observe the service flow, and follow their direction. Notice how the team prepares before service, supports guests and one another during service, handles transitions, and wraps up afterward.

Ask questions at an appropriate time. Learn what your role will involve, what procedures to follow, who to contact if you need help, and how the team communicates schedule changes. Follow all safety guidance during the shadow experience.

4. Debrief and prepare to serve

After the shadow serve, talk with the leader about what you observed. Share what felt clear and where you would like more instruction. The leader can explain any additional role-specific training, requirements, or next steps before you serve in the role.

5. Serve with the team

When you and the leader agree that you are ready, confirm your role and the team's serving schedule. Know your arrival time and assignment, communicate promptly if your availability changes, and follow the team's procedures. Your leader remains your point of contact as you learn and grow.

The Dream Team supports regular Sunday services and other designated services. Your leader will explain the serving rhythm and schedule for the team you are joining.

What to bring to the shadow serve

  • A confirmed date, service time, arrival time, and meeting place.
  • Any clothing, identification, or materials the leader asked you to bring.
  • A willingness to observe, follow direction, and ask questions.
  • Your leader's contact information in case your plans change.

A shadow serve is not a test of perfection. It is a chance to learn the flow with a leader beside you, so you can step into serving prepared and supported.
